One of the things I learned as a copywriter is that there’s what you say and there’s how you say it. Same applies to directing.


Some directors are all about substance, without much concern for style. Others are all about style, doing dazzling things with the camera, but the messages don’t connect.


I like to think it’s important to consider both.


I always aim to get the clearest, most compelling performances I can. And present them in a way that’s both interesting and relevant.
